Outdoor Recreation 50+

Outdoor Recreation is a signature citywide run program that encompasses Sound Steps, Hikes, Walks with Dogs, Environmental Education, and anything outdoors. Some programs we offer are weekly neighborhood walks, monthly hikes, field trips, and environmental workshops. Topics include weather, nature, animals, gardening— all related to the Pacific Northwest. Take time to enjoy the outdoors! Time spent walking and being surrounded by nature provides benefits to include reduced stress, lowered blood pressure, and improved moods. Most programs are free.

The mission of Outdoor Recreation is to broaden outdoor program opportunities for older adults.  As a new and evolving signature program for Lifelong Recreation 50+, we would love to have your suggestions and feedback.  Reach out to sound.steps@seattle.gov with your ideas.

Then Sound Steps is for you!

Sound Steps is a volunteer-supported walking program within Seattle Parks and Recreation's Lifelong Recreation Program. Sound Steps is designed to get adults age 50+ moving and gaining the health benefits of regular exercise.

Sound Steps offers weekly walking groups from a variety of locations.

If you would like to help lead walks, promote the program, or motivate others, please register online as a volunteer, and send an email expressing interest to sound.steps@seattle.gov to route the volunteer application correctly.
